Woman arrested in Thailand for blackmailing Buddhist religious leaders by having sex

Bangkok (Web Desk) Thai police have arrested a woman who allegedly had sexual relations with nine Buddhist monks (religious leaders) and then blackmailed them using photos and videos to extort money from them, but the identity of the accused has not been further disclosed.

According to British media, during a press conference, police officials said that the woman blackmailed at least nine Buddhist monks and extorted money from them. Police believe that the woman received approximately 385 million baht (approximately 12 million US dollars) from these religious leaders over the past three years.

A police spokesman said that when investigators searched the woman’s home, they found more than 80,000 photos and videos that she allegedly used to blackmail Buddhist monks. Police say that this recent case first came to their attention in mid-June 2025 when they learned that a Buddhist monk had left the monastery and moved elsewhere after being repeatedly blackmailed and extorted by the woman.

Police said that the woman had a “relationship” with the monk who had left the monastery in May 2024. Later, the woman claimed that the relationship led to the birth of a child and on this basis, she demanded more than seven million baht (Thai currency) from the Buddhist monk to cover the costs of raising the child.
