Pakistan decides to delay delivery of LNG imported from Qatar
Islamabad (August 26, 2025): The government of Pakistan has decided to postpone the supply of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar.
Following a significant decline in consumption by the power sector and industry, the federal government has decided to postpone the supply of imported LNG from Qatar.
Sources connected to the Petroleum Division said that a delegation led by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik will soon visit Qatar, and suggestions will be given during the visit to postpone LNG cargoes.

According to sources, Pakistan will request to postpone 177 LNG cargoes for 5 years, one LNG contract will also expire after 5 years, and it is also proposed to sell 2 LNG cargoes in the global market from January 2026.
Sources in the Petroleum Division said that the decision to postpone or not to delay LNG cargoes will be up to Qatar. Apart from imported liquefied natural gas, local gas production has also been reduced.
According to sources, the power sector is taking up to 300 mmcfd less gas than the prescribed quota, the export sector is also taking less LNG than the prescribed quota, which is causing a line pack problem.
