RAIN MAY INTERFERE WITH SUNDAY'S T20 WORLD CUP CHAMPIONSHIP
MELBOURNE: Pakistan cricket supporters' hopes of witnessing their team win its second T20 World Cup on Sunday may be jeopardised as ominous clouds linger over Melbourne and rain is expected to ruin the game at the MCG on Sunday.
On Sunday, November 13, Melbourne has a 95% chance of showers, according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
The tournament's knockout games are played on a reserve day in accordance with ICC regulations. Therefore, if the championship game is postponed on Sunday, it will be held on Monday, November 14. If the game is interrupted by rain after it has begun, play will continue from that point the next day.
On Monday, though, there is also a good chance of rain. Therefore, if it rains on reserve day as well, a minimum of 10 overs—an increase of 5 overs from the previous requirement—must be bowled in the second innings to determine the result using the Duckworth-Lewis system (DLS). Both clubs will share the championship, though, if Monday's game is also postponed due to rain. The T20 World Cup 2022 will have two winners: each team.
Rain interfered with play on both days of the 2002 Champions Trophy final, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) acknowledged Sri Lanka and India as equal champions.
It is important to note that Pakistan has already advanced to the final after defeating New Zealand on Wednesday in the first semi-final. While today's second semi-final at Adelaide Oval between India and England will determine the other finalist.
