ISLAMABAD: The federal government is considering plans to raise government employee pay and pensions, and has developed three budget hike recommendations for fiscal year 2022-23.:
There is a plan for a five to fifteen percent boost in government employee compensation, according to sources in the finance ministry, but it is contingent on prior permission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Employees in BPS-1 to BPS-19 would have a 5 to 10% increase in their ad-hoc allowance, while those in BPS-20 to 22 will see a 10 to 15% boost in their salary.
They also stated that the pension would be enhanced by 5% to 10%. "The pay and pension commission has yet to submit its report, which the government has instructed them to do as quickly as possible," they stated.
However, according to the sources, any rise in incentives will be contingent on IMF approval.
In April 2022, the Federal government decided to reverse a decision to raise government employee salaries made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shortly after his election.
In a reply on Twitter, Miftah Ismail disputed that it was a U-turn.
Miftah Ismail justified the decision by stating that since federal government employees' salaries were boosted a few months ago, they will not be raised again.
He did say, though, that pay difficulties would be addressed in the upcoming budget. "In the meantime, we increased pensions for retired government workers," he continued.
