Severe shortage of oil, gas and coal, the country's energy crisis has intensified


Lahore: The energy crisis in the country has intensified due to severe shortage of oil, gas and coal.

According to sources, the energy crisis has intensified across the country and demand for electricity has reached record levels due to hot weather.

Sources said that the power shortfall in the country has exceeded 7,000 MW. At present, the demand for electricity is 28,350 MW while the supply of electricity is around 21,350 MW. Many of these plants are closed.


According to sources, 4,635 MW of electricity is being generated from hydropower and government thermal power plants are generating 1,060 MW of electricity while 9,677 MW of electricity is being generated from IPPs.

The power shortfall in the LESCO region has reached 800 megawatts, resulting in unannounced load shedding of ten to twelve hours in various cities.

The duration of power load shedding has increased in areas with high line losses and every two to three hours there is one hour power outage, announced and unannounced load shedding has made the lives of citizens miserable.
