Kabul: The death toll from an earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has reached 800.

According to an Afghan government spokesman, the death toll from last night’s earthquake in Afghanistan has now reached 800, while more than 2,800 people have been injured.

According to the report, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck at 11:47 p.m. local time last night in Afghanistan, and about 20 minutes later, another 4.5-magnitude tremor was felt in the same province, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

In this regard, the US Geological Survey said that the magnitude of the earthquake that struck Afghanistan last night was recorded as 6. The epicenter of the earthquake was 27 kilometers east of Jalalabad, the city of Nangarhar province, while the depth of the earthquake was 8 kilometers.


Afghan officials say the earthquake caused the most damage in Kunar province, where hundreds of people have been killed and thousands injured, while many people are still buried under the rubble and the process of extraction is ongoing.

It should be noted that earthquake tremors were also felt in various cities of Pakistan last night, but there was no loss of life or property.

According to the Seismological Center, aftershocks of magnitude 4.6 were also felt in Hangu, Malakand, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chitral and Peshawar at 12:38 pm.

The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 15 kilometers, while the epicenter of the earthquake was in southeastern Afghanistan.
