New secret digital number plate system introduced in Islamabad to combat vehicle theft and fake transfers

In Islamabad, the Excise and Taxation Department is introducing new technology for the first time in the federal capital to tackle issues like vehicle theft, fake number plates and fake transfers.

This technology will not only make security more effective but will also help in reducing and tracing car theft, while replacing the traditional system of vehicle transfers.

This modern system is known as the ‘Third Number Plate’ which will basically be a third number plate but it will be a special type of digital tracker tag. This plate will be installed on a specific part of any vehicle in such a way that it cannot be removed without leaving a trace and it will not be possible to tamper with it.

This number plate will not be visible unlike the usual traditional plates, but it will be based on digital identification and can be seen and tracked by Safe City cameras.

According to the Excise Department, this modern third number plate has been connected to Islamabad's Safe City network. Thousands of Safe City cameras installed in the capital will now be able to scan not only the visible numbers of the vehicles but also this digital tag installed inside them.

Officials say that if a thief steals a vehicle and changes its normal number plates and brings it on the road, then this third number plate will show its work. As soon as that vehicle is caught by a camera, its real identity will immediately appear in the system and an alert will be issued to the relevant agencies. In this way, it will become relatively easy to find stolen vehicles and the old method of thieves to change the number plate and hide the vehicle will no longer be effective.

According to Bilal Azam, Director of the Excise Department, this system will prove to be a game changer in preventing theft and fraud. The third number plate will not only be immovable but also includes technology that will immediately alert the Safe City system in case of any tampering or illegal attempt.
