A man has been arrested in northern Greece for breaking into a house and sniffing neighbours' shoes.

A judge in northern Greece has sentenced a man to one month in prison for breaking into neighbors' homes and smelling their shoes.

The 28-year-old told court in Thessaloniki that he was unable to explain his behavior, which caused him great embarrassment.

The man said there was no intention to break the law or harm anyone.

The neighbours told the court that he testified that he never resorted to aggression during his actions.

The citizen, who was arrested by the police from Sandos, a small town about 15 km away, on October 8 morning, was called after the neighbour found the citizen sniffing his family's shoes in the courtyard.
