President Arif Alvi said in a series of tweets that the measure was inspired by an incident involving Hazrat Umar (RA) when he was queried about the source of extra material in his cloak.

"In financial crimes, the onus is on the accused to provide a money trail," he explained, adding that the NAB's implementation had faults.

While the public clamoured for the return of looted wealth, long judicial processes, and poor prosecution failed most efforts, President Arif Alvi lamented that it was misused for political expediency by those in power and by vested interests, while the public clamoured for the return of looted wealth, long judicial processes, and poor prosecution failed most efforts.

Instead of amending the law to prevent miscarriage, remove loopholes, and strengthen it, he claims that it is being weakened beyond recognition. "These reforms will obliterate accountability, establishing a phoney sense of justice that covers a corrupt elite capture, ensuring the exploitation of the common man in an unjust society."

He also stated that the poor will continue to be imprisoned for minor offences while the corrupt wealthy will be free to loot and plunder.
